BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EVENT:
The 136th birthday of Fort Lauderdale's Matriarch and Historical Society Foundress, Ivy Cromartie Stranahan, will be celebrated February 24 as a kick-off to Women's History Month. Luncheon will be served at History Museum Fort Lauderdale and will include short presentations on Ivy's remarkable contributions to our city and region. Ivy arrived in Fort Lauderdale from Lemon City (now North Miami) to be the first school teacher in a one-room school house in 1899. A full-size replica of Ivy's 1899 schoolhouse is part of the museum's campus of buildings. Sponsorships are available. Seating is limited.
