By living in a multi-family building you already contribute a lot to sustainability. Sharing building amenities and resources with your neighbors tends to cut water and electricity use overall. Recycling is another way that you can help. We understand that recycling in a small space has its challenges, or that your building may not have recycling containers in convenient places. We are working to change the way your owners and managers provision recycling, so that it can be easier for you. The information on these webpages tells you what we are doing, reminds you how to recycle and provides useful tips.
It's the Law!
Recycling in multi-family buildings is governed by our City waste ordinance C-95-36. That means it is required for every apartment complex, condominium and other multi-family property to provision recycling services to all occupants. If you do not have recycling available to you, please contact your Property Manager or landlord. If you get no response, or if the building representative refuses to provide the service, please contact our Solid Waste Coordinator at (954) 828-5054.
If you Don't Have Recycling...
If your building or complex does not have recycling service in place, there are steps you can take to help start it. But the place to start is by learning all you can and having a good conversation with your property owner, manager, or condo association about your interest in recycling. You may want to mention:
