Every home should have one or more fire extinguishers depending upon overall size and number of rooms. At a minimum, fire extinguishers should be at hand in the kitchen and garage. If you have an outdoor grill, please keep one nearby as well. Purchase the correct type of fire extinguisher for each area. Be sure to read the instructions on the tag at the time of purchase so that you know how to use your fire extinguisher, how to inspect it annually, and so that you know when it expires. Most fire extinguishers can be recharged for less than the cost of purchasing a new one. When it is time to dispose of your fire extinguisher, please bring it to a City of Fort Lauderdale Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event.
