Travel Choices
Think of Florida and you are bound to assume that you need a car when you travel here. Pardon the pun, but not so fast. Fort Lauderdale is one of the increasing number of destinations in Florida which does not require car travel. And while you may want one to go farther afield, you can be assured that for most of your stay you can avoid rental and parking fees by looking to alternatives.
We are a very walkable city.
There are bound to be dozens of restaurants, entertainment venues, shopping areas and convenience services within walking distance of your hotel. While you are strolling, you may even encounter one of our beautiful painted intersections, wildlife habitats or trees of distinction.
We offer free, or almost free, transport around town.
Try our wave-and-ride Sun Trolley and our Uptown Link for going short distance around our central and executive airport areas. For not much more, you can go anywhere in Broward County, or all the way down to Miami or up to Palm Beach, using Broward County Transit or Tri-Rail.
Grab a bicycle.
You can check one out of the many B-Cycle stations around town, or ask your hotel about rentals they provide. You'll find bicycle racks conveniently located throughout our city. If you don't want to do the pedaling yourself, try one of the many pedicab services that run up and down the main shopping areas during our high season.
Get on the water.
Yes, the water isn't just for fun. We Floridians use it to get places too. You can take the Riverwalk Water trolley to cross the New River, hop on the Water Taxi from several convenient locations, you can arrange boat transport at any of our three city marinas, or you can inquire about services from your hotel.
Rent an electric vehicle or hybrid.
If you must rent, we encourage you to try an alternative fuel vehicle such as an electric car or moped. If you don't own one, it's a great way to do a test drive. You'll save on fuel while you are here. And you will help us to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
