Residential Bulk Waste Collection

Print

Bulk TrashThe Bulk Trash Pickup Program features collection of large household items and tree trimmings, up to 10 cubic yards in size, for residential customers. Items accepted for bulk trash pickup include: appliances, furniture, carpet, mattresses, toys, wood scraps, cabinet doors.  Please do not place tires in bulk piles (see instructions below).

Schedules and Routes

Bulk trash is collected once per month. Please use our Property Information Reporter to determine your collection day. If you miss or cannot wait for your collection day, you may schedule an appointment for pick-up (if overall trash exceeds 10 cubic yards). There is a fee for this service.

Set Out Instructions

Please place all items at least four feet away from any waste carts. Avoid blocking storm drains. Lay items in such a way as to minimize the likelihood of them blowing over. Remove small attachments and dispose of those by other means.

Alternatives to Bulk Trash Pick-Up

Often the items that you place in bulk trash can actually be useful to others. Before you go to throw something away, please investigate whether donating, scrapping or otherwise disposing of your old items is a possibility. Find out more here.

Oversized Yard Waste

Oversized yard waste, such as tree branches and large quantities of leaves in boxes/bags, may also be set out on bulk collection day. The City now recycles 100% of all yard waste, so please.separate yard waste from other bulk trash at the curb.

Discarding used tires is flat-out easy

We will help you dispose of used tires the right way with a free program for Fort Lauderdale residents served by the City's contracted hauler.

Here’s how:

1. On garbage collection days, place up to two passenger or light truck tires (up to 20 inch), with or without rims, on the ground next to your garbage bin before 7:00 a.m.  Do not place on or in your cart.

2. When the garbage collection driver spots your tires, a work order will be created and your tires will be collected within 24 hours.

3. A driver in a pick-up truck will remove your tires for environmentally responsible disposal.

4. As an alternative, tire collection services are available by calling our 24-hour Customer Service Center at (954) 828-8000 or by submitting a service request on the City's Lauderserv app at fortlauderdale.gov/lauderserv.

This service is available for up to four tires per household per year.
