New Year's Day – Monday, January 1, 2018
All solid waste services will be provided on New Year’s Day.
NEW THIS YEAR! Recycle your tree at the curb.
Fort Lauderdale residents may place holiday trees curbside for pickup on scheduled yard waste collection days. The free service begins the week of January 1st and concludes on January 13th. This is an easy, eco-friendly method for disposal of fresh holiday trees .
Trees that are placed curbside will be collected by Republic Services and transported to a yard waste processor where they will be chipped and used to make landscaping products, such as mulch. Other traditional options for tree disposal are still available, including cutting trees and placing them in green yard waste carts, placement in bulk pickup piles, or transporting trees to a Broward County designated Chip-A-Tree site.
Recycling holiday trees reduces garbage disposal costs and improves waste diversion from landfills and incinerators. Fresh trees are easy to recycle. Artificial trees should be re-used or donated, and only disposed of as trash or bulk waste. Artificial greenery of any kind is not included in this special collection. To minimize waste entirely, consider a Living Holiday Tree which can be planted after the holidays.
To participate in curbside collection, please remove tree stands, tinsel, lights, skirts, and ornaments from trees. Do not place the tree in any sort of bag. Set it out next to your yard waste cart prior to 7:00 am on your yard waste collection day. For more information on this and all of our disposal options, please visit our Holiday Tree Disposal page.
